A major success for the iPhone, while the market worries

Android brands, however, continue to sell better in certain regions: numbers.

Apple would have sold 63% more iPhones if we compare its results for the second quarter of 2022 to those of the second quarter of 2021. These are statistics signed by Counterpoint Research and concerning the Indian market which confirm this, this firm being regularly relayed by other sources such as Forbes , Reuters or The Wall Street Journal .

But unfortunately, even if these results are excellent, they still do not allow Apple to be among the most popular smartphone brands on the peninsula. However , only the mobile sector at more than $650 each is favorable to it; this is also where the apple firm is number one thanks in particular to the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the opening of a specialized online store in the country.

Asian podium

Unsurprisingly, it is according to Counterpoint Samsung which wins the prize of first seller of smartphones in India with 16% of the market to its credit in the second quarter, one point less than last year. Among the successes of the chaebol, we find in particular several foldable models such as the excellent Galaxy Z Fold 3 , equipped with 12 or 16 GB of RAM, a 7.6-inch display and a 4,400 mAh battery. under the hood. Apple, for its part, continues to dream of the release of a hinged iPhone with detailed patents but does not seem ready to make consumers benefit from it yet…

In second place in the Counterpoint Research ranking, we find Xiaomi with 14% market share compared to 20% in 2021. Only Vivo and RealMe are experiencing some growth, each with 12% of deliveries between April and June. Oppo is fifth with 8%, with the rest of the manufacturers accounting for more than a third of the cake.

The question of price…

But then, how is it that iPhones only represent a minority of the market in India? This could be explained in several ways, starting with too high pricing for budgets that are on average more restricted than in the West.

We know, however, that Cupertino is increasingly relocating its production to this country in full expansion, which should allow it to reduce its costs at the same time. From there to also benefit customers? Only the next few months will tell.
