“The most advanced camera ever seen on iPhone”
Twelve megapixels: this is the definition of the rear sensors on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. In our opinion, far too little unfortunately. Nevertheless, the photo block of the iPhone 13 Pro still has something to seduce: there is indeed a telephoto lens with ƒ / 2.8 aperture, a wide-angle with ƒ / 1.5 aperture as well as an ultra wide- angel with ƒ/1.8 aperture and 120° field of view.
It is also possible to zoom with the iPhone 13 Pro and with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Up to three times with optical zoom in but only twice with optical zoom out. The digital zoom, on the other hand, can reach x15: in our opinion, this is a real plus for lovers of pretty shots.
Also to know: the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max are compatible with Cinematic mode. This is an intelligent autofocus, which shoots video and allows you to achieve bokeh effects without adjusting them manually. Critics about it are unanimous: with this feature, the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are real photophones almost unrivaled on the market.
An almost unchanged design
If you’ve ever picked up an iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, their successors may not really surprise you. Indeed, they adopt almost the same format even if they are a little thicker. We also notice that the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max have a very protruding rear photo module and larger than before. Result, you risk scratching them if you put them on a table that is not clean. It is therefore better to buy a suitable cover. Another bad news: it will cost at least fifty dollar if you buy it from Apple.
Unparalleled performance for the iPhone 13 Pro
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are both powered by a proprietary processor, the 15 Bionic. This is accompanied by a Neural Engine and assembled by TSMC in Asia. It is much more powerful than previous generations, and allows you to play most of the most demanding titles such as PUBG or Fortnite without latency. Apple has not disclosed the CPU speed of its iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The amount of RAM of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max is also officially unknown. Nevertheless, clever people were of the opinion to measure this data and came to the following conclusion themselves:
- iPhone 13 Pro: 6 GB of RAM
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 6 GB of RAM
With such technical specifications, your iPhone 13 Pro is therefore not at all likely to be slowed down by lag. In addition, for graphics, the new Apple mobiles also rely on a six-core GPU soldered to the motherboard. Everything you need to take off at lightning speed, with ignition in seconds.
iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screen
The screens of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are clearly different. The display of the iPhone 13 Pro Max thus measures 6.7 inches diagonally; it is the most imposing. The iPhone 13 Pro remains a phablet too, but is limited to 6.1 inches, which remains very honorable. Indeed, with such a diagonal, you can watch TV+ series with almost as much comfort as on a compact tablet. The fifth-generation iPad mini , for comparison, is only a few millimeters taller.
For gaming, the iPhone 13 Pro Max also has a refresh rate of one hundred and twenty frames per second. This is also the case for the iPhone 13 Pro. Finally, the panel is designed with OLED technology which saves more energy than the LCD of the iPhone 11.
What services are included?
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are equipped with the in-house iOS 15 operating system, logically succeeding iOS 14. To develop it, Apple first launched a beta edition of the program. Objective: collect the opinion of the first testers in order to improve the interface. And it is successful!
Entertainment with iPhone 13 Pro/Max
Indeed, on a daily basis, it is very easy to use the iPhone 13 Pro and its big brother. Just like the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it comes with several tailor-made services. Here are our favorites.
- Apple TV+: in our opinion the best competitor to Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
- Apple Music: alternative to Spotify costing 9.99 dollar per month but unfortunately without a free version.
- iCloud: to enlarge the storage of your iPhone 13 Pro by adding data to it in the cloud. Paid there too.
- Apple Arcade: unlimited, energy-efficient video games so as not to overheat the SoC of your iPhone 13 Pro.
- Weather: tomorrow’s weather with rain forecasts and live temperature.
- Photos: a media library with also your videos, stored on the iPhone 13 Pro and detecting faces.
- Safari: the official proprietary browser installed as standard on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
- Find My: Find your lost AirPods or Apple Watch.
- Apple Maps: like Google Maps, but with Cupertino sauce.
- Shortcuts: Set up automations so you only focus on the features of iPhone 13 Pro that are essential to you.
Security and Privacy
Tim Cook is of the opinion, and he has already reiterated it several times in an interview, that respect for privacy is a real fundamental right. And we understand it: difficult, being CEO of the most listed company on the planet, not to respect a minimum distance with the public.
That’s good, because the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max come with several security options that make them real safes. With anti-tracking transparency, for example, publishers must ask your opinion before tracking your behavior. Another example is message encryption, which ensures that no one can intercept your private conversations.
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also feature Face ID locking technology. This facial recognition system uses the True Depth sensor installed in the notch at the top of the front screen, and detects your facial features in milliseconds.
With the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, it is possible to synchronize many data such as SMS, but not only. Indeed, the Concentration mode is also very useful for deploying personalized settings to block notifications in a timely manner. And precisely, it can also be updated both from your iPhone 11 Pro and from your iPhone 11 Pro Max.
In our opinion, the Continuity option of the iPhone 13 Pro which is the most useful is still Handoff. The principle is simple: you start a task on another device (for example a Mac mini M1 like the one from 2020 ) such as playing a YouTube video, and you continue it without interruption on your iPhone 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max. In a millisecond, the image and sound are transferred from one screen to another and you do not lose track of your content!
