Many third-party apps don’t look kindly on the progress of WWDC 2022.
During the Worldwide Developer Conference 2022, Apple presented several new features, particularly on the side of macOS Ventura, its new operating system for computers. Among them, the Continuity of the camera which makes it possible to use the dorsal camera of the iPhone in replacement of that of the Mac . A welcome tool which can also capitalize on the ultra wide-angle of the most expensive mobile in order to film not only your face but also what is happening on your desk: your drawings, your notes, your models, your gestures, etc
In reality, this solution is not new: another company had already been offering a similar service for some time; camo. Its platform is not available on the App Store but it can be downloaded from its developer’s official website . Whether you use Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Skype, Slack, or of course FaceTime , you might as well improve the experience.
What’s new in Camo
Regardless, Camo will continue to improve its value proposition. Its developer, Reincubate, has just announced several major changes to compete with Apple and its clip-on support on the back of the MacBook. With Camo Studio 1.7 , for example, you will be entitled to seventeen new models (“templates”) to enhance your calls with personalized information: your address, a link to your Twitter profile, etc.
With this, the publisher also deploys the possibility of creating your own designs yourself without the need for third-party editing software such as Photoshop. Then, users can share their productions with other app clients.
Camo Pro is offered at 40.45 euros per year or 80.91 euros for a lifetime license. If you only need it for a month, it will cost you 5.11 euros.
And the others ?
During WWDC, Apple also added other options that are inspired by third-party companies that marketed them earlier. Among them, we can cite the smart pillbox of Health on iOS, the removal of the background with Photos (Remove.bg) or the payment in installments with Apple Pay (Klarna).
iOS 16 also allows you to customize the lock screen with many widgets, which is reminiscent of the customization offered on Android smartphones for a few years.
