Comparison: MacBook Air M2 vs. MacBook Air M1

0 0

Unveiled a little over a week ago, the new MacBook Air is more powerful, but not only. Here are all its differences with its predecessor.

With particularly impressive first performance tests , Apple’s new M2 chip has something to seduce. Just announced, it’s available in two new laptops: a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air. It is the latter that interests us today, alongside the already excellent results of its predecessor.

For the occasion, we have written a complete comparison that you can find at this address. Otherwise, here is a quick overview of the main improvements to remember to guide you in your decision-making if you do not know which machine to choose. The old one is indeed still available in store.

What changes

To begin with, the 2022 MacBook Air therefore features a latest generation processor: the M2. This is advertised as offering a calculation speed 1.4 times greater than that of the MacBook Air M1, but that’s not all. Indeed, Apple has also decided to integrate up to 24 GB of RAM in the MacBook Air M2 against 16 GB maximum with the MacBook Air M1.

On the design side, it is of course impossible not to notice that the emblematic “feather” format of the MacBook Air range has been abandoned with its M2 version. However, it remains very thin with only 1.13 cm thick for 1.24 kg : an ideal product for travellers. As for the screen, it is enlarged and goes from 13.3 to 13.6 inches thanks to the arrival of a notch diverting the camera, which is also equipped with a better definition (1080p vs 720p on MacBook Air M1).

However, there is no difference in battery life , which remains a maximum of eighteen hours according to official figures provided by the manufacturer.

Price and availability

The MacBook Air M2 comes in four matching colors with its MagSafe charger : Midnight, Space Gray, Silver, or Starlight. It costs 1,499 euros but is not yet available in the Apple Store. The MacBook Air M1, whose power supply goes through the USB-C socket, is more affordable despite an increase in its price : count 1,199 euros in its basic edition with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD .
