Follow the guide, but beware of bugs!
August 12, 2021 update: a public beta 5 is available, as seen there, with few changes however.
Apple released an initial public beta for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15 in early July, as announced and explained here . macOS Monterey followed suit. Here is precisely how to install this test version of the next OS for Mac.
Please note that this is a beta version . It can obviously contain bugs and sometimes cause loss of data or very annoying malfunctions. We therefore advise against installing it on your main working machine.
How do I install macOS Monterey Public Beta?
First of all, it is recommended to make a backup of your Mac , via Time Machine or a third-party tool. In the event of a problem, you can always go back to backtracking thanks to this backup.
Then follow these steps:
- Go to Apple’s Beta Testing Program page from your Mac
- Tap the ‘ Register your devices ‘ link at the top of the page
- Press the “ macOS ” option among the different OS offered. This will bring up a reminder that it is important to make a backup beforehand with Time Machine.
- Scroll down the page until you come across the “ Download macOS Public Beta Access Utility ” button . If you haven’t enrolled your Mac in the beta testing program, tap on it to download the .DMG file that will enroll your machine. Otherwise, you can skip this step.
- Finally, go to “ System Preferences ”, then to “ Software Update ” to install the macOS Monterey beta
