macOS Monterey: why can’t anyone install this update?

Apple takes the lead.

Apple has a few hours ago launched a new special update to macOS Monterey at number 12.4. But if you don’t see it appear in Apple > System Preferences > Software Update on your Mac, even though you have a top-of-the-line Apple computer model, don’t panic, that’s normal.

An update for Mac M2

In fact, the update is reserved for Macs equipped with an Apple silicon M2 chip . No one can therefore install this new version to date, since the new MacBook Pro 13″ M2 and MacBook Air M2, presented at the last WWDC, are not yet available on the market.

The MacBook Pro 13″ M2 has been available for pre-order since 2 p.m. yesterday , but it will only arrive in stores and among first buyers next Friday. The MacBook Air M2 does not have a release date at this stage.

We do not know what this update is for, the Mac M2 should not a priori offer exclusive features. We should know more when early MacBook Pro M2 users get the update next weekend.
