No 27-inch Apple silicon iMac, after all?

No 27-inch Apple silicon iMac, after all?

The computer has been highly anticipated for several months, following the release of the 24-inch iMac M1 alone.

According to the same source who already knew the Mac Studio in advance, Apple has just put an end to its plans for a possible iMac “Pro” . The concept has regularly made the headlines in recent weeks, taking the diagonal of the last model with Intel chip but updating it with a different processor, this time designed by Cupertino.

Coupled with a central unit, the new Studio Display with also twenty-seven inches on the counter has perhaps proven itself to the point of dismissing its all-in-one equivalent. But the quarterly results published regularly by its manufacturer will not allow us to know for sure. Apple prefers tax data by product category only: iPhone, Mac, iPad…

The price of the alternative

Enjoying a large screen at Apple therefore leaves three possibilities today. The first is the iMac M1 (24″) released in 2021 and which consists of a single purchase from 1,449 dollar  in USA. An amount that can reach almost double for a maximum configuration with a 2 TB SSD and 16 GB of RAM.

Otherwise, it is also possible to opt for the 32-inch Pro Display XDR, but the bill starts here at 5,499 dollar  or 6,499 dollar  with a layer of nano-textured glass. To which we must still add a Mac mini or a Mac Pro, always without leaving the Apple ecosystem.

Finally, the 27-inch iMac with Intel CPU , which has just been withdrawn from sale in the Apple Store but which remains available from third-party stores. Here, it takes at least 2,099 dollar , which is always more than for the more compact but more recent edition.

Response in June

The next conference that Apple should give should unsurprisingly be held in June, when the brand most often organizes its annual WWDC. Geared towards developers, the show quite often gives pride of place to the changes that are coming to the Mac and could therefore also be an opportunity to validate or not the hypothesis of the twenty-seven-inch “Pro” iMac.
