A note sent internally to Apple employees suggests that some of the firm’s flagship products will soon be left out. To better understand what it is, we must first know the meaning of two terms used by the Californian company.
The first concerns “ old ” products, in other words which have not been manufactured for five to seven years (excluded). For these items, Apple no longer offers hardware repair in French-speaking countries. In addition, these are most often references that are also not entitled to the most recent software updates.
As for the second qualifier, it concerns “ obsolete ” products, which Apple classifies as those which have not been published for seven years or more. Again, exit the security patches (in general).
According to the memo to which we were able to access, Apple was therefore preparing to classify as “old” the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus in the 32 GB version by the end of June. As a reminder, these devices were released in 2015 and were discontinued in September 2018. These are the few models that old to still be compatible with the iOS 15 operating system .
Apple’s decision to do without these products could be explained quite simply. Indeed, WWDC 2022 is approaching and on this occasion should be presented iOS 16. It would therefore not be surprising if the program is not available on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, their technical sheet seriously starting to date and improvements for augmented reality – particularly energy-intensive – seems to be on the program.
To finish with the portables, the iPhone 4S would pass as for him to the “obsolete” stage at the same period. It was, when it was made official, the first of its kind to be equipped with the voice assistant Siri, a real little revolution at the time.
With this, Cupertino is also reportedly set to list the first-generation iPad Pro as “legacy.” It’s a 12.9-inch tablet that arrived in late 2015, but that mark also applies to its more compact version. With a 9.7-inch screen, it will be released at the end of March 2016.
Today we are already on the fifth generation of the large model and the third of the small, which now offers an enlarged diagonal of 11 inches.
Finally, it is the Apple TV HD which would also be classified as “old” soon. A choice this time more surprising because the case is quite recent, but the nomenclature could in fact designate in an older edition .
